Skateland West’s Zumba Event Set for July 12 to Help
Cure ALS/Lou Gehrig’s Disease

Westland, Mich. – May 28, 2015 – Metro Detroit’s award-winning Zumba instructor Derica Wade announced a special Zumba for a Cause event to benefit The ALS Association Michigan Chapter. ALS is also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Join Skateland West’s Zumba instructors Derica, Len, and Brittany for a 90-minute ZUMBA party on Sunday, July 12 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Skateland West 37550 Cherry Hill at Newburgh Road in Westland. Tickets are $10 at the door.11427350_10153028605131896_5087418332673955355_o

Participants will enjoy 90 minutes of non-stop Zumba fun, burning calories while raising funds and awareness for ALS, a life-threatening disease that renders its victims with complete paralysis. There’s presently no cure for ALS.

The event will feature a live testimonial from Terri Pickering Saenz, a 47-year old Canton, Mich. wife and mother who was diagnosed with ALS in January. Saenz is currently a real estate agent for Keller Williams and is participating in an ALS stem cell clinical trial out of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Donations will be accepted at the Zumba event to help Saenz with travel expenses associated with the 10-month clinical trial. Learn more about Terri’s journey at http://www.gofundme.com/k9yf1o.

Proceeds from the Zumba for a Cause: ALS event will benefit the Michigan Chapter of the ALS Association, a not-for-profit organization that supports and serves local families living with ALS. More information can be found on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/events/906178422772880/.

About ALS
ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease) attacks the nerve cells that control muscles, ultimately resulting in paralysis of all voluntary muscles, including those used for breathing. Average life expectancy for people with the disease is three to five years after diagnosis.

About The ALS Association Michigan Chapter
The ALS Association (National Office and the Michigan Chapter) operates under a shared mission: to help people living with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and to leave no stone unturned in search for the cure. We work together to accomplish our mission. The Michigan Chapter focuses primarily on helping local patients and families live with ALS while the National Office focuses primarily on research and advocacy. The Chapter supports the National Office through revenue sharing and research contributions. The National Office supports the Chapters by providing up-to-date information and materials.
