On June 28, 2026, we lost a great man. Terri’s Father, Charles W. Pickering, Jr., affectionally known as Chuck or Pick, passed away at the age of 83. Chuck created this golf event as a fundraiser for his eldest daughter Terri who was diagnosed with ALS in 2015. So, it was very easy to conclude that this event should recognize and honor the man that worked so hard to get this fundraising event started over 10 years ago.

Effective this year, the 8^th MyFriendTerri.com Golf Tournament will now be known as the annual Charles Pickering Memorial Golf Classic benefitting Terri Saenz and ALS TDI. This year’s event is Sunday, September 27^th at 8:00am at Fellows Creek Golf Club in Canton, Mich.

Terri, her husband/caregiver Jeff, sister Leigh and the entire family are heartbroken about Chuck’s recent passing. But Terri & Jeff know they have to keep fighting this horrible disease with grace and dignity as they have the last 11 years.

As you know, Terri has lost the use of her legs, arms, and hands and she’s 100% dependent on caregivers. Jeff assumes that role most of the time, except during the business week when he’s working full-time to support their family and generate income to maintain the costs of caregiving, medical equipment, and specialized therapies that can be well over $150,000 each year.

With your help, we can continue to raise funds to allow Terri to be cared for in her home AND honor Chuck for all he’s done to support Terri, his family, and all the citizens of Westland where he served as a mayor, a councilman, and a lifelong resident. Together, we can help provide Terri and her family with the stability, comfort, and peace of mind while ensuring these enormous financial burdens do not stand in the way of her journey. I’m certain that was what Chuck wanted when he started the first golf fundraising event back in 2016.

How You Can Make an Immediate Impact:

Please consider forming a team of four to join us for a fun scramble on the course. Be sure to wear your favorite tropical shirt in honor of Chuck! We also will host a dinner afterwards where we encourage non-golfers to join in on the fun! Again, the family requests all wear a Hawaiian shirt if possible. If you cannot attend at all, please consider a hole sponsorship for $100 where a sign will be created recognizing your donation.
