Terri experiences her first hospitalization in 10 years

Last week was a very challenging week for Terri Pickering Saenz and Jeff Saenz. Together, they endured Terri’s first hospitalization since her 2015 diagnosis with ALS. That in itself, is a miracle. But if you know the quality of care that these two have developed and nurtured, it is understandable that Terri is still with us, living a over decade with this terminal disease, and shown the world what a strong and loving marital partnership they have. Terri had a few days of stomach pains that started the process.
Terri waited for 10+ hours in Trinity’s ER dept, a two day stay at Trinity, then an ambulance transfer to University of Michigan Hospital. All the caregivers were phenomenal, but UM has the experience with ALS patients. Turns out Terri had a wayward gallstone escape into her pancreas causing a bad case of pancreatitis. This also slowed down her digestion and made a pseudo blockage in her intestines.
There were many tests, many moves out of her chair, and lengthy stays in a bed after sleeping in her chair for six years. And Jeff did NOT leave her side. He remained in the hospital for the entire week. The stone passed, she began eating again, and after 8 days, Terri and Jeff returned home. Luckily, no surgery was needed. We are grateful for the teams at both hospitals, God above, and of course Jeff and family for being there for Terri.

Wishing Terri lots of love and prayers as she continues to heal at home with her wonderful caregiver and hubby, Jeff!
